Drugs help us fight disease and treat plenty of medical problems. Most of us take prescription drugs - drugs that, by law, must be prescribed by a medical practitioner. If everything goes well, the medicine works for you as it is supposed to. But there is no "magic bullet", or medication that works the same for every patient without any risks or side effects. A side effect is basically an unexpected occurrence that results from using a medication. The commonest cause of side effects is the fact that prescription medicines are highly concentrated and commonly do not exist in nature, so they badly affect the liver. Once your liver is chronically stressed by taking a drug daily, any other tension you place on it, such as exposure to toxins, can weaken your wellness. As we get older, the liver works less effective, so prescription drugs add insult to aging. Side effects can be mild at first, and you might not refer them to the medication you are using. Common examples include mild symptoms of tiredness, muscle weakness, forgetfulness, dizziness when you first stand up, trouble thinking clearly, uncommon depression. Certainly, aging can cause all those effects, but prescription medications can advance and speed up the process. Once you begin mixing medicines the side effects amplify. When some drugs interact, they might become life-threatening, inefficient or lead to potential problems to your wellness. At times, drug-to-drug interactions might bring on side effects, which might range from mild to deadly. Prescription drugs might interact with each other and with non-prescription drugs. Some kinds of food might also slow up drug absorption, raise or diminish its effectiveness, or lead to unexpected side effects. Alcohol and caffeine might also affect how medications work. For instance, mixing alcoholic drinks with beta blockers, a kind of medication taken to treat hypertension and heart problems, may reduce your blood pressure considerably. Alcoholic drinks may increase drowsiness and make it dangerous to drive or operate machinery when used with certain drugs. So, before you start using a drug, inquire your physician about potential side effects and drug-to-drug interactions. If there is a herbal remedy for the medical condition you are having, select the safest oral treatment.
